Trek Femslash Comment Ficathon

January 26th, 2020 (04:23 pm)

Welcome, one and all, to the Trek Femslash Comment Ficathon!

Rules and What-not:

1. Stories should be femslash. And about Star Trek characters. Crossovers are a-ok. Any length, any rating, any theme or style. Heck, if you're moved to a vid or icons or something, those are good too.
2. Prompts should be in the format PAIRING; PROMPT WORD(S)
3. Leave as many prompts as you like, fill as many as you like. There's no need to post a story if you post a prompt.
4. Feel free to write for prompts that already have fills - the more the merrier!
5. For fills, please note pairing, rating and any applicable warnings in the comment header.
6. Play nice; have fun!

Note: This ficathon is running permanently. Feel free to drop in any time to leave a prompt or answer one!

So, um, yes, I sort of forgot I had a Dreamwidth. Or a LiveJournal. Or a, y'know, most of the internet in general. To be fair I've been quite busy. Sometime this evening I plan to go back over my sparse DW reading list (what is it even called? I know you're not supposed to say "friends page") and find out what I've missed! But for now, an update.

Health - Went for an MRI - it was noisy and a bit scary but I got to see a picture of my brain and it looked... like a brain. Apparently as far as they can tell it is a normal brain, doing what normal brains do, which is a relief as apparently especially in people my age TN can be caused by cysts and tumours etc. But apparently I just have the regular "we don't know WTF causes it" kind. Anyways my medication seems to be calming down a bit and I'm seeing a neurologist soonish.

Writing - I was all "Ta-da! I have finished my second draft and now it just needs polishing and tinkering!" and then I pulled at a loose thread and half of it unravelled, so, fun and games with that but I'm getting there, I think...

Adventuring - We went to Croatia for a few days! Much fun was had. Everyone else had lots of ice creams and since I can't I pulled off the grand feat of three candy flosses in one day. Also did you know you can dip chips (ie fries) in chocolate sauce and it really, really works? ALSO the other day we  went on the Harry Potter studio tour for a friend's birthday and it was, dare I say it, magical. If expensive. But mostly magical! :D

Work - I'm looking desperately for something new, I'm heartily sick of my job, but in the meantime I'm working from home again permanently after JUne 11th. I'll go in on Wednesdays but that's it. And now I really want to find a new job before they install all the extra computer equipment they've promised me...

Speaking of computer equipment - My laptop is off with the insurance's repair people to verify the fact that she's dead as a doornail. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll get a payout for a new one. In the meantime Cara is being incredibly generous with hers. <3

Avatar/Korra - I am so sad that I finished Avatar because I wanted it never to end. But I'm really enjoying Korra so far! I love how Korra's journey is so different to Aang's - it's not just a new setting and time, they're both in completely different places and need to learn totally different lessons. Also Lin. Lin!!

Look! An update!

April 22nd, 2012 (06:07 pm)

So, I'm experimenting with crossposting between Dreamwidth and LJ... we'll see how I get on with it...

I've got a bit behind with the internet, what with one thing and another... my new medication is making me really sleepy AND my computer is in bits while Andrew tries to figure out some way to save it, but the outlook isn't good...

Anyways, some lovely bullet points:

* Went back to the doctor, it's still probably trigeminal neuralgia. I'm going for an MRI and to see a neurologist. In the meantime I'm on a slightly higher dose of medication, but the doctor was surprised that that dosage was even keeping the pain under control to the extent that I'm still going to work and socialising, so hopefully that's a good sign! Also I'm getting the hang of the side-effects a bit better - I can stay up late now even though I'm sleeping very soundly, and the dry mouth is just making me drink loads of water which is good for me anyway!

* My birthday! It was good. Cara got us tickets to Folk by the Oak! Dad got me a Kindle. I have named it Zoe. Also Jenni made me amazing TARDIS wrist warmers! And I got books and a pasta maker and a castle and lots of other lovely things! Hurrah!

* My computer. It is not so good. A couple of weeks ago it just stopped working. Andrew says the motherboard is kaput. I need to find out whether I can claim for it on the house insurance, since I sure as hell can't afford a new one right now. Luckily Cara is very generous when it comes to letting me use hers.

* Writing. I wanted to be finished with my second draft by now, but being ill set me back a bit. But I'm onto the final section, and I've decided to change it around a fair bit. I'm still hoping to have a good second draft by the beginning of May.

* We're off to Croatia soon! Only for a few days, but I'm looking forward to it a lot. Plus we're taking a couple of days off after too, I'm looking forward to the chance to relax, and also to get some stuff done.

Right, off to catch up on AAAAAAALL the internet. How are you all?

Some Stuff...

March 22nd, 2012 (12:00 pm)
cranky

current mood: cranky

So apparently I may have this thing called trigeminal neuralgia. I'm not 100% convinced because the doctor diagnosed it pretty quickly (although the other main candidates, sinus infection and dental cavity, had been pretty much ruled out by that point) so I'm going to get a second opinion etc, but it does sound very like what I've been experiencing. And apparently if it is that I will have it my entire life YAY.

So that kind of sucks. But I got given some super-strong stuff for it that seems like it might be helping. It's making me super-woozy but also I typed this whole thing so far without a break to go 'AAARGH MY FACE PLEASE GOD MAKE IT STOP' which is an improvement on how my week has been going so far.

Hmm, I was going to do a separate post but what the heck, now I'm typing. I finished watching Huge and I have some thoughts:

NO SHOW WHY DID YOU HAVE TO END?!?!?! )

Also [info]carawj and I caught up on Once Upon a Time. OMG it is so much fun. I'm actually kind of sad that we caught up because now we can't marathon it, but at least now I will actually know what [info]damelola is talking about all the time. ;D

Right, off to eat porridge very gingerly!

Festivids and Fandom Stocking

February 8th, 2012 (09:52 pm)
chipper

current mood: chipper
current song: On My Radio - The Selecter

Festivids was really exciting this year! I got not one but two vids, both of them fabulous, and both of them by the awesome Nancy Blackett.

This absolutely perfect and wonderful dinnerladies vid, and this cute and fun and fabulous Nyssa vid.

I made a MASH vid, which was quite a challenge because it's a big canon and I'm not as familiar with it as I used to be, but I worked hard on it and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. It's here. I may make a proper vid post for it at some point.

Fandom Stocking was lots of fun too! I got an adorable Ace/Mel drabble, a delightful Team Crawley Sisters ficlet, fabulous Cybill icons, and cute beautiful happy-making DS9 fic that makes my pupils turn into little hearts! (Cleo and others still watching, don't click, may be spoilery!) Plus lots of nice good wishes! :D

I wrote eight ficlets in Deep Space Nine, Next Gen, Doctor Who, Vorkosigan Saga, Downton Abbey and SJA, and they're here.

Emergency Femslash Drabble Challenge!

January 11th, 2012 (01:57 pm)
mischievous

current mood: mischievous

At long last, our dear [info]silly_cleo is watching DS9. Unfortunately she's only on Season 2, and she's almost run out of Kira/Dax fic that she can read without being spoiled for later seasons.

So I turn to you, dear flist. First of all, recs? Particularly things that can't be found in the appropriate tag on AO3?

Second of all, drabbles! Ficlets! Epics, if you feel like it! Write them, post them in the comments! Or leave prompts! Either respond to prompts or just write whatever you feel like!

The only rule is it must have some Kira/Dax element, and NO spoilers past Season Two! Have fun!

(long overdue real-life post and comments etc forthcoming once I'm actually back from work...)

Yuletide!

January 1st, 2012 (05:23 pm)
pleased

current mood: pleased

So, I really lucked out with a recipient who basically requested everything I love to write, and so I had lots of fun coming up with ideas and lots of angst trying to choose between them!

In the end I came up with:

Another Woman's Stairs (Downton Abbey, G, Mrs Hughes, with a bit of Carson and some mention of Cora)

And also I wrote a little something for Madness:

Want (Jam and Jerusalem, G, Susie/Caroline)

On the subject of Jam and Jerusalem, I received:

Changes Rung on an Old Theme by Ishie, a beautiful fic that gives everyone a few wonderful lines and a gorgeous scene between Sal and Eileen at the end. So exciting because there is barely any J&J fic, and this just did everything that I hoped it would do!

Other than that, I'm so behind on reading because I was in Wales until the 28th and then we got back and our carbon monoxide alarm went off and the emergency guy came and switched everything off and there's no engineer until tomorrow so we've been staying with [info]silly_cleo, [info]minihannah, [info]jakera and Kirstie, who while generous have no internet! ;D (At the moment we're camping in our freezing living room so we can all catch up on email...)

Hope everyone else had a good Yuletide!

A Rundown of Fic from 2011 )

I also wrote some thoughtful stuff here about vidding and how I didn't do that much but I felt I'd learned a lot from watching other people's vids in the last year and I'm excited to apply it all and vid lots in 2012, but LiveJournal nommed it. Hmph.

Regular Update

December 7th, 2011 (11:25 pm)

Sorry for the spam, this will be my last entry today. ;)

This is mostly a post to say I've signed up for [info]fandom_stocking again this year - it's a delightful and low-pressure festive fandom exchange, and the last two years I've had lots of fun doing it. If you'd like to stuff my stocking, it's HERE. I would love to stuff yours! Let me know if you have one! :D

Hmm, what else? I am looking forward to Christmas, shopping two-thirds done, Christmas concert with the choir imminent, Christmas tree going up sometime this week probably, aaaall the fandom things to be doing this month, been to some theatre (including Sharon Gless in A Round-Heeled Woman, OMFG), going to some theatre (including BONNIE LANGFORD IN SPAMALOT AAAAAAAHHH MY HEART), work driving me mad, writing going well on and off...

How are you, flist? I've been a bit busy and offline-y recently so let me know if anything's going on with you!

Stuff of the Year!

December 7th, 2011 (09:47 pm)

Since I'm supposed to be spending this time doing aaaaall the things, here is a procrastinatory post! I just wanted to rec a few of my favourite fandom things from 2011 - bearing in mind that I will probably forget a lot of things and the list will be weighted in favour of the last few months, but yes, anyway, here is some awesome stuff that I liked this year!

Fic:

Sanity Will Be Graded on a Curve (M*A*S*H) - BlueMorpho - I don't read a lot of M*A*S*H fic these days, but this wowed me. I suspect it's probably still quite interesting even if you don't know the show, but it especially is if you do!

I Get That Line All the Time (Star Trek) - Thistlerose - OK, so, this one's cheating a bit because it's a remix of my own fic, but I love the way Thistlerose took the brief scenario I'd written - Uhura and Lily Sloane meeting - and ramped the awesome up to eleven.

Mutual Attraction (Star Trek) - Oparu - I. Just. Lwaxana Troi. And Kate Pulaski. This story makes me ridiculously happy.

Theoretical Principles (Star Trek) - sophiegrace - This story not only has one of my favourite pairings (Seven/B'Elanna), in it they work exactly the way I see them working - they're funny and snarky and hot and adorable.

Before I Go (Star Trek) - carawj - Yeah, I know she's my girlfriend but Cara writes awesome fic. Doctors! Worf impressions! Enjoyable drunkenness! :D

Vids:

Born Too Late (ST: DS9) - Bironic - This vid is the soundtrack to my life right now. It is absolute perfection when it comes to the folk of DS9 being adventurey and teamy and wonderful.

If You're the Captain (ST:VOY) - thingswithwings - I giggle every time I watch this because it so perfectly explains the way Captain Janeway and her crew work.

Suddenly I See (Firefly) - purplefringe - This is just a ridiculously lovable and joyful and sweet Inara/Kaylee vid and it makes me smiiiiile.

Suzanne (Doctor Who) - such_heights - Of all the flurry of Doctor/TARDIS stuff that came out this year, this for me is the one that feels the most true. It's the perfect mixture of wistful and loving and delighted.

Christmas in the Delta Quadrant (ST: VOY) - touchdownpossum - This is just super-cracktastic, awesome Christmas fun!

busy

current mood: busy

So, [info]mini_hannah, [info]silly_cleo, [info]carawj and I set ourselves a challenge to post more regularly, so here's my stab at it. Although I actually posted fairly recently. ;)

* Second draft of the novel is coming along bit by bit. I was stuck on a bit that didn't work because of things I changed late in the first draft, and it took me forever to figure out that the whole problem could be solved by the scene in question taking place indoors instead of outdoors. *headdesk* So now that's sorted out - onward!
* Also working on a new project, a website for kids... still in the planning stages, watch this space...
* Bit frustrated that I suddenly have a lot less writing time, since I'm back working in the office, which means three hours commuting every day. On the flipside that's three hours reading time, but it's not the sort of commute where writing is really possible, or I could alternate. I'm really not enjoying being in the office. Working from home really suited me and going in every day stresses me out and makes me unhappy. I'm going to try to find something else.
* But yes, silver linings etc, I achieved my aim of reading a lot in September partly due to my stupid long commute. It was only ten books, but three of them were the insanely-long Tawny Man Trilogy, which I quite enjoyed but which annoyed me in places. Before that I read some factual books, mostly feminism-related, some good short stories and a couple of new-ish fantasy things I'd been meaning to get around to. Next up are a couple of quick little Star Trek tie-ins before Snuff comes out this week.
* [info]silly_cleo and I joined a choir! It's lots of fun so far and I really have missed singing.
* We went to the Entertainment Media Show (Collectormania) the other weekend, which was a thoroughly disappointing experience, but at least I got my picture taken with some guy dressed as a Klingon? So it could have been worse.
* Spent yesterday having Yom Kippur dinner at [info]carawj's grandparents' house. I've been there a few times before but this was the first time I've been invited to Jewish Stuff, so I was very pleased (and nervous) to go. I had a nice time and now we have lots of leftovers, hurrah!
* Life shows no signs of getting any less busy - theatre trips, stays with my dad, visits from various friends and family, outings, innings... lots of fannish things coming up over Christmas... not going NaNoWriMo this year so I'm sort of looking forward to a bit of a quieter November than usual...

Hello all!

The new flat is lovely, spacious, colourful and friendly, pictures to follow! But it won't have internet (or TV, or phone) until the 14th, so the generous [info]silly_cleo is letting us steal hers for a bit today.

Next week we're going on a mission to buy all the bookshelves, and possibly a cutlery tray and some picture hooks. Hurrah!

I feel like I had other things to say, but having a finite period in which to catch up with all the internet has befuddled me a bit. Um. Hope everyone is well and having a good weekend!

Busy, Busy...

August 25th, 2011 (06:38 pm)
exhausted

current mood: exhausted

August has contained many things. Among them a trip to Cornwall (sunny! Scone-ful!), picnics (delicious! Croquet-tastic!), a weekend in Edinburgh (fringe-alicious!) and various other delights. Plus [info]carawj are moving house on Sunday! We're not going far, just up the road, but we'll have lots more storage space, and a little garden!

The summer has been so busy that I'm getting a bit worn out, and so I really want to try and have a quieter September. As part of this, I've decided to make September my month of reading. I haven't read much at all lately - admittedly partly to do with short attention span due to sadness - but I'm getting back into a reading sort of mood and I want to really try to read a lot in September. Anyone is welcome to join me!

Semi-relatedly, on the train back from Edinburgh on Monday (having been inspired by a Neil Gaiman talk at the book festival, and some good chats with Manda) I finished the first draft of my YA fantasy novel. I'm now starting the second draft, wheee. Fun times.

The first five people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble/ficlet of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.
